THIS has been a busy year for the children of Mary Tavy and Brentor Primary School, with children actively involved in a variety of sports.
The tag rugby team had a brilliant season under the coaching of parent Will Reed. The team came second in the Tavistock Area Schools' Council Tag Rugby Tournament and later represented the school at the West Devon Tag Rugby Festival where they won the small schools' section. They recently travelled to Burnham-on-Sea where they participated in the South West Tag Rugby Festival.
The netball team, although not able to play often due to bad weather, were coached by Julie McGowan, an ex-parent. They took part in a netball tournament at Kelly College and came fifth.
Since January a weekly cross country club has been assisted by parents Pat and Dave Woodhouse. Just over a third of the school have participated in the weekly running club.
At the Tavistock Academic Schools' Council competition Nathan Wonnacott and Tess Osborne were second boy and girl respectively in their races with the girls' team coming second overall in the small schools section.
