A WEST Devon primary school held a special open day last week, the culmination of a week of activities with an environmental theme. During the week all Lifton School pupils spent a fun-packed day exploring at Roadford Lake, before undertaking lots of linked investigations back at school. During the open day, pupils and visitors were able to try making instruments from natural materials, cooking with fresh ingredients, mask-making, dancing, sewing butterfly and bug costumes, and face-painting. They also created a labyrinth in the grounds from cobbles and stone chippings, as a permanent marker of the week. At the end of the day they danced and fluttered round the school in their colourful insect costumes to celebrate the official opening of the school?s new library and IT facilities. The opening ceremony was performed by Mrs Nancy Keast, the oldest former pupil in the village, assisted by the youngest current pupil.
