AROUND 300 people enjoyed a range of attractions including a horticultural show and scarecrow competition at Throwleigh Fete and Gymkhana last Saturday.

The event, which made a welcome return to the field of Mr and Mrs Harding after the foot and mouth crisis, raised a superb £1,614 for the insulation of the village hall.

Barbara Cross, who organised this year?s fair, said the day was a huge success, with everyone enjoying themselves.

?We?re absolutely thrilled with the money raised and it was great to see such a high turnout,? she said. ?It was the best fete we?ve ever had.?

Judges in the scarecrow competition had their work cut out trying to select a winner from nine entries of a very high standard.

?The scarecrows were absolutely brilliant,? said Barbara, a member of the village hall committee. ?We had mechanical ones as well as the more traditional ones.?

The event also saw the launch of the village?s new 50/50 lottery draw.
