North Tawton 22 Exeter Saracens II 14 NORTH Tawton had the luxury of several replacements for this friendly, including two for the front row. The starting line up included the return of Peter Wonnacott at prop, with Ross Lawrence back on the wing. Tawton established advantage from the boot of Paul Fewings at fly half, and Tom Davis showed positive play in running out of defence at the opposition as he consolidated his claim to the full back role. The Saracens front row provided the foundation for them to regain territory until a quick penalty tap by Tawton scrum half David Fewings took his side back into the Sarries half. A scrappy spell of play by both sides led to another penalty for Tawton about ten metres out, from which another characteristic break by Fewings created a gap for him to dive over for the first try of the game. This was not converted. An injury to a Sarries player brought on Keith Jones as substitute, making him the second North Tawton player loaned to the opposition in this encounter. Saracens staged a comeback and despite a strong defensive tackle by Tawton's Zac Matravers, Pete McGuigan went over for a try to the visitors. The successful conversion by Frenchman Simon Labayle at fly half took them into the lead by two points. Good work by hooker Adam Davis off the front of a lineout set up a chance for his threequarter line to come into play. Neat handling in the centre from Chris Martin and Andy Poole helped the home side to a position close to the opposition try line. A scrum was awarded from which new, young talent Kevin Avery broke away to dive over for a fine try. The conversion by Paul Fewings took Tawton into a lead at half-time. Saracens held out for a couple of scrums but Tawton flanker Richard Lethbridge collected a short pass off a maul, slipping out of two tackles on his way to an excellent try under the posts. The conversion by Lawrence took the home side to 19-7. North Tawton stretched their lead with a penalty by David Fewings following another good break by Elkins. A high tackle was seen by the ref, giving Tawton the chance to add three points to their tally. A chip through from the back of a Sarries scrum about 15 metres out was fumbled by the Tawton defence under the posts and in the ensuing maul the ball was scrambled over by Saracens' Lee Sharland. The try was awarded and a simple conversion by Labayle. Man of the match: Richard Lethbridge. This week North Tawton have a re-arranged fixture. Instead of travelling to Sidmouth they are at home to Exeter Saracens.
