SALTASH Sailing Club held its premier event last weekend; The Commodores Cup sponsored by Noakes and Habermehl consisted of Keelboat Match racing and Two-boat team racing combined.
Good winds and competitive teams meant sailing skills were tested to the limit, teams fought tooth and nail in unpleasant conditions on the Saturday to leave any one of four teams chasing the cup on the final day.
Having conceded only one race each throughout the event the leading two teams faced each other in the team racing final in Bosuns.
Stephen Hills with team mates Jamie Westaing, Pete Bennett and wife Corrine, were dominant off the start. Neil Trathen tried valiantly to control the speed of opponents Stephen and Pete to allow teammate Dave Shannon to get back in the hunt.
The task was too great and the gap too big for any confrontation or protests allowing Stephen and Pete to cross first and second.
It was a thoroughly deserved win and a grand finale to an exciting event of close and skilful racing.
