WHILST Mr G Hall (Letters March 25) is entitled to his opinion, as county councillor for the area I was approached by the parents of childen who live along the full length of Zeal Head to South Tawton Road, concerned for the safety of their children, as a minority of vehicle drivers are not observing the speed limit and driving too fast.

I approached Devon County Council and they decided to place 30mph round Os on that stretch of road so that children would be better protected from speeding vehicles.

Whilst this does not enhance the village, it will hopefully save a child?s life or serious injury if people are encouraged to drive within the speed limit.

That is the paramount issue and nothing to do with Europe or Devon County Council having plenty of money. It is purely a road safety measure.
