WEST Devon craftsmen and women will be demonstrating a variety of rural crafts at Finch Foundry in Sticklepath near Okehampton next Saturday, August 25. Throughout the day visitors will be able to watch the blacksmith, wood turner, stonemason, thatcher, weavers, spinners and basket makers demonstrate their skills and crafts. There will also be a chance to try dowsing and children can ?weave a fish?. Finch Foundry, a traditional water powered working forge, nestled in the heart of Sticklepath village on the edge of Dartmoor provides the ideal setting for local craftspeople to join together to demonstrate and show off their crafts. Roger Boney, custodian at Finch Foundry, said: ?Finch Foundry, in its heyday, was at the heart of the local community, producing up to 400 tools a day, supplying many craftsmen with the tools they needed. It is great to have craftsmen and women demonstrating traditional crafts at the Foundry.? The craft day will be held between 11am and 4pm. Please ring the foundry on 01837 840046 for further information. Normal admission charges apply.
