THE new Okehampton Hospital Appeal Fund received welcome help on Saturday when Jubilee Runner Donald Bibey presented a cheque for £750 to Dr Paul Nielson, the leader and main driving force behind the hospital appeal.

The Queen's Jubilee Barton Relay was the key to an idea Donald had when selected to run carrying the baton.

He invited people to support him in his effort to 'raise a pound coin' for each of the 500 yards he would run in the relay when the Queen's Baton first arrived in Devon at Barnstaple on June 18.

Donald was delighted with the support he received in raising the money.

'People locally and across the country from Essex to Cornwall gave support by way of donations — making it possible to raise more than £700 for the new hospital appeal fund,' he said.

The hospital appeal is raising funds to purchase the latest medical technology to provide state of the art healthcare services for Okehampton and surrounding areas.
