STEAM billowed around the town and people filled the streets during the 21st annual Steam Fair last weekend, deemed 'the best ever'.
The Steam Fair, organised by the Robey Trust, this year had six Robey engines all in working order, a variety of vehicles on display, mini ride-on steam trains for children, stalls, music, morris dancers, trailer rides and a forge demonstration by a lecturer in hot metal, as well as many other things.
David Davies, founder of the trust, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, said: 'It was the best one we have ever had. We had six Robey engines which is the most you would find together anywhere in the world. We revamped the whole show, which proved to be successful.
'The weather does play a major part in the event, and it was a sunny day but not too hot, so we had a steady stream of people visiting.
'We always try to invite other steam engine collectors and this year the visiting steam engines took people for rides around the town in trailers.
'We have a superb and dedicated team — the club really works well.'
Mr Davies said that the loyalty and enthusiasm shown by members of the trust amazes him.
It currently has members ranging in age from eleven to 80 and is keen to attract more members.
The trust can offer a number of opportunities for people, from learning new skills in everything from engineering and woodwork to admin, whether for a hobby or to enhance a CV.
Anyone who would like to see what goes on behind the scenes at the trust, based at Pixon Lane, can do so by contacting David Davies on 01822 615960.
