ROADWORKS are likely to continue dogging drivers between Tavistock and Okehampton as Cable and Wireless finalise work started by a previous contractor.
Bob Thomas, a spokesman for the company, said one of the contractors, P K Martin, laying cable between Plymouth and Okehampton, had ceased trading and had been unable to replace the temporary road repair with a permanent surface.
He said it was normal practice to cover over the trench with a temporary repair as work progressed — with a permanent surface being laid at a later date when a longer stretch could be done in one go.
Cable and Wireless has put the job out to tender and work started this week, taking about four weeks to complete.
Mr Thomas said there would be less disruption than when the original work was carried out.
