ONCE again an accident on the A386 on Saturday resulting in a road closure caused absolute chaos with traffic, much of it holiday traffic, trying to get through the narrow road from Whitchurch.

When are the powers that be going to realise their mistake in making that road so narrow?

Like many others I queued to get through the narrow part of the road to keep an urgent appointment. Traffic was at a standstill and everyone turned their engines off and waited ? nothing was coming through from the opposite direction.

It appeared that either a caravan or a large camper van was trying to squeeze past a queue of cars but found that it was impossible so no-one could move.

Time went on, way past my appointment ? still nothing was moving, so I gave up. Fortunately I was near a field gateway and was able to turn and go back to Tavistock. Driving back I passed a solid queue of traffic right through Whitchurch, back along the road from the A386 turning, and on to the A386.

What would have happened if an ambulance or fire engines had needed to get through urgently. How long is this going to be allowed to happen? Something must be done.
