Teignmouth U12s 14

North/Okes U12s 21

THIS was a good away performance from North/Okes against a larger and well drilled side.

Teignmouth opened the scoring with a well taken try. North/Okes opened their account with Robert Steptoe, again having an excellent game, picking up from the base of a ruck and jinking his way over the line. The conversion was by Andrew North.

North/Okes scored a second after good play from the forwards allowed quick ball to the threequarters for North to take a crash ball all the way to the line. Conversion by North.

In the second half Teignmouth used the weather conditions to their advantage and levelled the score again using their forwards.

Teignmouth then camped in the North/Okes 22 for the majority of the second half. But the away team?s defence held strong with excellent and committed tackling from Cameron Rickerby and Darcy Heard preventing Teignmouth cross the line again.

With five minutes to go and all square, North/Okes? threequarters followed up one of North?s long spiralling kicks out of defence and with quick hands moved the ball wide for Heard the score in the corner. Conversion by Heard.

Teignmouth fought back but North/Okes had worked hard and had the bruises and black eyes to prove it and were not about to let this one go. Both teams can be proud of their performances.

This week?s game is at North Tawton against Launceston. 11am kick-off.

PLAYING away to Teignmouth with a number of fresh players and U10s making the step up to play for the U11s led to a disjointed game from North/Okes.

Often out-muscled by the Teignmouth forwards, Okehampton saw their opponents score seven tries throughout the game.

But North/Okes should take encouragement as they did not allow their heads to drop and replied with five tries from some fine handling and support.

Try scorers: Matt Johns, Peter Gillard (2), Jorden Lee (2) and one conversion, Mike Hunt.

OKEHAMPTON were dominant from the start with the forwards of White, Francis and Bennie winning the scrums and lineouts and working hard in rucks and mauls, allowing Matthew Johns, who had a great game along with the rest of the backs, to run at Teignmouth. This enabled Jamie Hignett, with strong running for the second game running, to score three tries.

Buster Francis picked up a loose ball off the side of a maul and scrambled over for a good individual try.

Matthew Johns also went over after one of his sniping runs, and after great interpassing by the backs of Tom Fogerty, Sam Ewen, Tom Aylen and Matthew Johns, Daniel Curtis finished off the first half with a fine try.

In the second half with a few changes the game became tighter with Cornthwaite, Bennie and Courtier working hard and making good runs. But with the backs growing in confidence and running well, Sam Ewen managed to score a couple of tries.

Teignmouth came back with a couple of tries but Okehampton kept plugging away and after a good run Tom Fogerty managed to get a well-deserved try.

Okehampton U9s 10

AFTER hard work to start off and some good individual runs by Dean Folland, Sam Cooper and James Balch, Okehampton never looked threatening and poor tackling allowed the fast boys of Teignmouth to get through.

Henry Cooper looked the most threatening and managed to get through a couple of times. Dean went over for a try along with Henry.

The team are improving all the time and with a little more work the results will follow.
