WEST Devon Citizens Advice Bureau (WDCAB) is issuing an urgent reminder to all people who have received tax credits over the last year that the deadline to fill out the forms is this Saturday, July 31.
Families who have received tax credit payments in the last tax year will have received papers from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) between April and July.
WDCAB is warning that it is vitally important that everyone who has had payments above £10 a week over the last financial year fill out these forms, even if they have since stopped or expect them to stop soon.
If they do not complete the forms, any money received from April 6 2010 will need to be repaid.
Barbara Osborne, manager at WDCAB, said: 'Every year around 200,000 families end up with overpayments as a result of not completing their end of year forms.
'Whether you will be continuing to claim tax credits after July, or have claimed them over the last year, but won't be claiming any more, it's absolutely vital you complete these forms. Otherwise you may be asked to pay back any money you have received since April 2010.
'Forms can be completed over the phone, or posted.
'If you have any problems filling out the forms you can come and see us for advice at our branches in The Ockment Centre Okehampton, or Kingdon House Tavistock, or call us on 01822 612359 or 01837 52574.'
