Tavistock v South Devon
SOUTH Devon won the toss against Tavistock at the Ring and elected to bowl first on a wet wicket.
Both openers fell cheaply to the bowling of Duke. Soon after skipper Dave Manning was caught with the score on 32-3.
Arnie Searle was the only top order batsman to put up any resistance (19) before he was bowled by Duke.
This brought Steve Nicholson to the crease to join Steve Luffman. They put on a workmanlike stand of 123 with Nicholson falling for 36. Luffman continued to smash the South Devon bowling all round the ground. He completed his century in the final over 102 not out, including 9 fours and 5 sixes.
With the help of 46 extras Tavistock amassed a respectable 226 for 7. Duke finished with figures of 3 for 59 and was well backed up by Sorensen, 1 for 34, and Blackmore, 2 for 71.
Tavistock started well against the South Devon reply, with South African Craig Alexander bowling Sorensen with the fourth ball of the innings. With Steve Miles bowling well in tandem with Alexander, Tavistock looked well on top with the score 48 for 4.
With the run rate a gettable 6 per over veteran Andy Gauler began a wonderful spell of swing bowling, conceding just 18 runs off his 10 overs, simultaneously taking the required rate to nearly 10 per over.
Middle order batsman Brown battled for his 62, but with South Devon now well behind the required rate, the lower order batsman played out the overs for a draw.
The visiting side finished on 170 for 7 taking 8 points from the match to Tavistock?s 14. Alexander claimed 2 for 55 and Miles 2 for 37,with Arnie Searle bowling well for his 2 for 37.
