IT is not surprising ATS want to stay in the town centre. Clearly, they are in the right place for customers who want to go shopping whilst waiting to have a tyre changed.

The loss of the site as a potential car park is disappointing, but no great loss to Dolvin Road residents because we would only be given permits to compete for spaces with shoppers, which falls well short of the dedicated parking area we were promised.

What is needed is for the borough and county counncils to agree a residents' parking scheme in Dolvin Road. After five years it is obvious the parking restrictions in Dolvin Road are totally unenforceable, despite the best efforts of the police.

There are always cars parked in the purpose-made lay-bys. Most of us break the law anyway at the beginning or end of each day, and disabled drivers can park legally anytime. Additionally, many school parents ignore restrictions when dropping off children. Despite this, there has been no congestion due to cars parked in the road, which proves the restrictions are just bureaucracy.

Like ATS, we also want to be in the town centre, but why do the authorities make it so difficult for people to live here? A residents' parking scheme is the only option.

PS: Residents are not permitted to use Brook Street car park as stated by the borough council in last week's Times. This concession was taken away last year!
