TAVISTOCK and Okehampton sections of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team are warning walkers to be prepared before venturing on to Dartmoor, after an incident earlier this month.
The rescue teams were called by the police at 9.30pm to locate two 23-year-old men who were lost on Dartmoor in thick mist.
They found the men at 12.15am on Hunt Tor. They had left their car at Bearslake and had planned to do a circular walk. They did not know Dartmoor and neither man had a map, compass, whistle or overnight kit.
Tavistock controller Bill McOwan said: 'Everyone should learn from this avoidable incident and always be prepared and carry the correct equipment'.
