A YOUNG musician living in Okehampton has decided to pay tribute to the sacrifices of previous generations by organising an evening of live music from local bands on Remembrance Day.

Andrew Durman has decided to stage the concert at the Charter Hall on Thursday, November 11, with all proceeds going to the Poppy Appeal.

The bill includes Crazy Train, Black Tulip, Raucous Pigeon, Two Foot Giant with headliners Fosta, recent winners of the inaugural Okehampton Battle of the Bands.

Andrew only moved to Okehampton recently but said he was keen to do something to mark Remembrance Day this year.

He said he knew most of the people in the bands and when he approached them, they were all very enthusiastic about playing a benefit concert for the cause.

Andrew said this was his first ever attempt at being a concert promoter, but the local branch of the Royal British Legion had got in touch to offer to help promote the event.

He would like to make a career out of music and is currently singing with an Exeter-based blues band, but said this event was more focussed on local bands.

Andrew said: ?I spent five years in the Air Cadets myself, and had a great time and had thought about joining the forces.

?Although I may have gone down a slightly different path, I still have great respect for what previous generations did to give us our freedom today.?

Andrew is asking concert-goers to wear their poppy with pride and remember the reason behind the event as well as enjoying the great music.

Andrew said there was a long tradition of musicians playing benefit concerts for important causes, though he had not heard of a gig in aid of the Poppy Appeal before.

Tickets for the concert will be on sale on the door or in advance and should be priced at around £3.
