TAVISTOCK Fire Brigade will be paying their respects to the New York firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, by marking the International Firefighters Day of Remembrance this Sunday.

Station commander Chris Neale says Tavistock firefighters will be parading in the town and will hold a one-minute silence at 2.30pm to commemorate the 343 New York firefighters who lost their lives almost a year ago.

The day is also in memory of firefighters the world over who have been killed on duty.

l Tavistock firefighters will also take part in a community fire safety day at the station between 1pm and 5pm on September 15.

There will be safety demonstrations, stalls, light refreshments and Cappa, the arson detector dog, will also be attending.
