CALLINGTON is to lose its popular Neighbourhood Beat Manager as Sgt John Frazer is due to be replaced by the middle of May. Sgt Frazer, who announced at last week?s town council meeting that he would be leaving, has been in the town for two years. ?It has been a very interesting two years and the station has come on in leaps and bounds, largely due to working with the council,? he said. Portreeve Jeremy Gist, expressing regret at the news, said that, having been in the council chamber for a long time, the last two years had been the ?best we have ever had for co-operation with the police?. ?At the end of the day it comes down to the individual. We have had a first class individual we have been able to work with,? he said. Cllr Sue Nettle said she was sorry to see him go as the support given had instilled confidence in elderly people. Sgt Frazer, who is to become a dog handler in South Devon, hopes to attend the April council meeting to introduce his successor. Councillors at Calstock parish council?s meeting the previous week had also expressed regret that Sgt Frazer was leaving.
