SHOPS in the town centre that made an effort to dress their windows over the Diamond Jubilee weekend were judged by members of the Tavistock BID company on the Saturday afternoon.

They found the number and quality of the displays to be exceptional — everything from hand-made crowns to red, white and blue pots and pans filled the windows.

Sandra Dineley-Jones, a BID director from the Cornish Arms, said: 'It made us proud to be British and in business in Tavistock. The hardest thing was to judge so many excellent windows against each other, the amount of effort that people had put in was wonderful.'

After scoring each window separately the judges came to the same results. It was unanimous that both 'Odds 'n' Suds' and 'Todd's' should receive a high commendation for their displays.

But the top three in the judges' opinion and winners of some bottles of wine were: third place 'Pebbles', second place 'Creber's', and the top spot for their imaginative red, white and blue-themed window was 'Treyone Kitchens' in West Street.

Chris Hair, BID director said: 'We felt that the overall level of window displays was very high but were blown away by the amount of time and thought that Treyone had put into their kitchen display.'
