Okehampton Town Council has bought three new benches made from recycled materials.

Two will be placed in Simmons Park play area, one of which will be suitable for wheelchair users. The third will replace the rotten bench on Market Street, which has already been removed from the edge of the street.

The benches were purchased from Devon Contract Waste which is responsible for collecting the council’s rubbish.

Town clerk Emma James, said: ’Waste collected from the council and Simmons Park could have been used to make the benches. It’s a full cycle of plastic returning to the town for the long-term use of residents and visitors.’
