THE sheep section this year has never been so popular with breeders who brought their high quality animals to Okehampton from all over the South West.
Geraldine Daintree, the show secretary, told the Times: 'There have been almost 900 entries, 21 sections and seven breed classes with a good standard of entry. The rare minority and primitives have been very popular this year. Everybody seems to be enjoying it - regardless of the weather.'
One breeder who was obviously enjoying it was Peter Heard of Yelland Farm, Okehampton, who, amongst many prizes, had a champion ram with his Blue Faced Leicester, firsts in the young ram and young ewe classes.
Peter said: 'This shows what quality stock we have and the Okehampton show is a good shop window for us.'
