THE bi-annual Dartmoor Charity Speed Shear at Clannaborough Common, Throwleigh, near Okehampton, is all set to break more records as more than 40 shearers face each other for charity this Sunday, (August 30).

All are keen to take on Matt Smith, former world champion, who - two years ago - won this competition when he sheared a lamb in 19 seconds.

Proceeds will go towards Devon Air Ambulance and defibrillators for the neighbouring parishes of Throwleigh and South Tawton.

’This is a very popular evening which last time raised over £7,000 for charity,’ said organiser Steve Alford. ’This year we are all determined to top that and break a few records at the same time.’

Entry is £3 (children free) and there is a bar and hog roast. After the competition people can dance ’til they drop to the Johnny Fuller band.

Gates open at 5pm and the post code is EX20 2QF.
