CURWORTHY Cheeses came up trumps once again – winning two third prizes and a first place prize in their 20th year at the show.

The cheesemakers, based at Stockbeare Farm in Jacobstowe, won the single speciality (hard or soft) category, and won third place in the hard pressed non-cheddar category and the smoked cheese (hard or soft) category. They specialise in making full-fat semi-hard cheese using milk from their Friesian herd.

Rachel Stephens, who runs the business, said: 'The first prize cheese is our traditional Curworthy. 'The two third prizes; one was won by Hay Tor, which I have just been making for a couple of years, that's based on a gruyère style cheese.

'The Devon Smoke is a Devon Oke cheese which we quarter and then smoke over oak chippings.

'We've got our full range of cheese on sale here today. We make it all on our farm using all our own milk off the farm.'

'I've been making cheese for about twenty-five years. I've been coming to the show for twenty years. We wouldn't miss it for the world, actually. It's very good for promoting our products and socialising, and meeting our customers. We really enjoy it.'
