A GENEROUS donation has been given to the Okehampton Foodbank by the organisers of the Okehampton Show.
Okehampton and District Agricultural Association decided at their annual meeting to donate £1,000 to the Foodbank charity which has been helping workers made redundant in the town recently.
The agricultural association is itself a charity, founded in 1890 with the objective of advancing local agriculture, horticulture and connected businesses.
The association is perhaps best known for organising the annual Okehampton Show, now in its 104th year. This year's show will be held at the Stoney Park Showground on Thursday August 11.
LOCAL Freemasons have rallied in support of the Okehampton Foodbank and donated £2,600 to the charity.
With the recent demand for aid, the Foodbank has seen its resources stretched. The Freemasons of Okehampton, along with other businesses, organisations and local people responded to the Foodbank's appeal for help with their generous donation.
Freemasonry in Okehampton is represented by the Lodge of Obedience on Station Road.
Members of the Lodge of Obedience worked alongside members from the Freemasons Lodge in South Molton, and with the charities of the Provincial Grand Lodge and the Provincial Grand Chapter of Devon. This teamwork led to the £2,600 being raised.
Representing the Lodge of Obedience are Kevin Jones (left) and Ray Rattenbury, who said: 'We are delighted to be able to support the Okehampton Foodbank, it is a very valuable resource and we welcomed the opportunity of being able to assist the local community.'
