THE doors of the Drewe Arms in Drewsteignton will swing open once again after being shut for six months — and the new owners are holding a charity quiz night to raise money for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

The thatch-roof pub has been closed for the last six months, but has new owners in Laurence Cosnett and Jason King. The Drewe Arms has a place in the hearts of many. For 75 years it was run by Mabel Mudge, who retired on her 99th birthday in 1994, at the time, she was Britain's oldest licensee.

To celebrate the reopening, the pub will host the charity quiz on Saturday, October 12.

'As the new owners, we are committed to putting the Drewe Arms back at the centre of the community,' said Laurence. 'It is our understanding that a number of people in the village owe their lives to the speed and professionalism of the Devon Air Ambulance Trust and as such, we have chosen them as our charity of choice.

'The Long Room at the Drewe Arms is such a great venue, and we are delighted that our first event will generate some funds for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.'

The quiz has been designed to be a fun night for all, with questions on music, film and television, history, sport and general knowledge. As well as the quiz, there will be hot food available. Entry fees for each team is £5 for a team with a maximum of four players. The quiz starts at 7.30pm.
