THE Winsford Trust at Halwill Junction has received a Royal ?thank you? for being ?unsung heroes? who play an essential role in community life. The Winsford Trust has been chosen as winners of this year?s prestigious Queen?s Award for Voluntary Service for the contribution it makes to daily lives. The trust is one of only 104 organisations to win an award across the UK this year, and the only one in Devon. The trust was formed seven years ago, and transformed the former cottage hospital at Halwill Junction into a centre which provides a base for social, educational, health and leisure activities for the community. The trust will receive a certificate and engraved crystal as part of the award and will also be able to use the ?Unsung Heroes? award logo on its documentation. All winners have been nominated by members of the public who have either benefited from their work, or seen the positive effect on their community. The award is only given to those groups where volunteers are judged to have regularly devoted their time to providing an outstanding level of help to other people.
