TAVISTOCK Town?s two youngest teams travelled to a wet North Devon last weekend for a fun and eventful six a side football tournament in Bideford. The U8s on Saturday played four matches. The first saw a narrow 1-2 defeat against Barnstaple with Tavistock scoring through Will Partington?s opportunist strike straight from kick off. The second saw an exciting 2-2 draw with eventual winners Crediton. The third group game saw the team clinch a quarter-final spot with an emphatic 6-0 victory with goals from Montague, Brain, Stevenson, Massey, White and Partington. The quarter final was a nailbiting 0-0 draw with Braunton that saw both teams go close to scoring in normal and extra time. With scores level the match went to penalties and despite heroic efforts from Town keeper Tom Cotter, Tavistock lost out 6-5. The U7s followed on Sunday and despite pouring rain they did themselves proud. A tense draw in the first game was followed by a comfortable 6-1 win in the second group game. Victory was secured by a fantastic volley from halfway by debutant Louis Cherrington and a four-goal second half salvo from Sam Brain. The third group game saw a 5-0 victory with Sam Brain scoring another hat-trick after superb approach play by Joe O?Loughlin and Saul Pengelly. The quarter-final draw ironically saw the U7s playing Braunton as well and despite dominating the game and creating a number of good chances the boys were felled by a late strike to see a 0-1 reverse.
