SCHOOLS are invited to participate in a national charity event aimed at creating a new world record and raising £2,000,000. The first official Walk2Live national event was held last year, with 100 school raising almost £100,000 and a world record created for the greatest number of schoolchildren walking at the same time. This year it is hoped to create a new record with many more schools participating. Schools, or any group of young people under 18, undertake to walk for charity on May 19, the time for the world record being 2.05pm. Any money raised can go to the individual school or to their chosen charity. The event is the brainchild of 76-year-old Geoff Blore, also known as Dicky Blood and author of Dicky Blood?s War, which covers his time as an evacuee in the second world war. He said he wanted teachers and children to ?show that the sort of community spirit that characterised the British people during world war two still lives on?. Geoff himself walked and cycled around the UK ? 2,200 miles in 74 days ? in 2004 and called at 150 schools en route, all to publicise the first Walk2Live project.
