Tavistock Pumas 4 OPM 0 THE game opened with some good passing from the Pumas. Unfortunately the opposition closely guarded the ?D? and it was difficult for Tavistock to get clear shots on goal. Whenever the ball was won by the opposition, the Pumas were quick to get back through midfield and pick up the free players. Laura Stapleton and Sarah Barratt marked their players strongly resulting in the opposition being forced to bring the ball down through the middle. A couple of times OPM had possession and were driving into the ?D?. But strong defensive play of Kevin Lethbridge and Fiona Dunn forced them to play the early ball and they were no match for goalkeeper, James Pitts. When Robynne Honey was on the pitch she challenged the opposition and won possession of the ball. Linking well with her brother, Tom Honey, these two youngsters along with Sarah Barratt and Dom Lovett showed what a strength the team has with its younger players. At half-time the score was 0-0. The team returned with increased effort - resulting in Robynne Honey scoring the first goal. Tom Honey had a break with the ball, passed it to a running Armstrong who struck at the keeper, the ball was deflected and Robynne was sat waiting by the post to pop it back into the goal. Tavistock were definitely the attacking team and Dunn and Lethbridge marked up strongly allowing the midfield play of Barratt, Barratt , Wilson and Brown to push up the pitch and support the strong attacking play of the forwards. Robynne Honey scored again, taking the ball round a couple of defenders and slipping it past the goalkeeper. Lovett and Tom Honey continued to work well with each other and the ball was switched from both sides of the pitch. Tom Honey scored the third goal with an excellent strike. It was good to see the whole team using each other to create the goals and this is what happened with the fourth and final goal of the match. Tom Honey had the ball and on receiving a call from Armstrong passed the ball across to her and Armstrong scored. Today (Thursday) the team are at Marjons at 8.15pm against Hell?s Angels. Player of the match: James Pitts.
