THE Meadows Makeover co-founders and local businesses got together recently to officially present the Fun Day star prize raffle winner with her villa holiday and travel vouchers. Winner Katie Brimacombe was presented with the villa holiday, which includes a seven night stay for up to four people, including breakfast, on the island of Samos, which was donated by Ruth and Mike Petralifi of Eat Like a Greek. Katie and her family are planning to take the holiday next summer. Travel vouchers and money towards flights to complete the prize were donated by Thomas Cook, Tavi Life Magazine, Sabor de Mexico, Mansbridge Balment, Newell's and Unique Kitchens by HIM. The makeover team raised just over £3,000 from the fun day held on the August bank holiday and believed the star prize of a villa holiday definitely boosted the raffle ticket sales. Co-founder of the makeover group Mia Alaoui said: 'It was a fantastic and generous donation by Ruth and Mike and has made a huge difference to our fundraising.' The event was well supported by local businesses and some donated prizes right up to the day, including The Beauty Room, Bodyshop at Home, Cakes by Hannah Miller, Dart Print, Caroline Down, Fairway Furniture, Go Mobile, GP Holidays, I Love Candy, Lucy's World — Hedgehugs, Meadowlands Leisure Pool, Morwellham Quay, Palmers, the Original Pasty House, Pizza Wheels, Roots to Transition, Todds, Visage and White Rose Bakery. Makeover co-founder Keri Pierce said: 'The support from local businesses and individual people has been overwhelming. We are extremely grateful. It just goes to show how much people want the Meadows to be a brilliant resource for Tavistock both for locals and for tourists who will boost the town's income. The Meadows Makeover group has now raised, in total, £8,340 towards the zip wire.' Mia added: 'We are so close to our target of approximately £12,000. We're hoping that the next event or two will see us being able to pay for the zip wire — another key piece of equipment to continue the Meadows upgrade.'
