AS I watched the carnival procession on Saturday, July 20 I was extremely proud to be the current president of Tavistock Lions and a Tavistock resident.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part in the procession which was the culmination of a week of fantastic events. 

There are many, many people to thank but I would particularly like to mention Crebers of Tavistock for sponsoring the carnival itself, H J Sanders and Sons for sponsoring the Summer Sounds evening at The Wharf and, of course, The Wharf for providing the venue, Taylor's Restaurant for sponsoring the baby show, Peter Gorton and the Bedford Hotel for hosting a fantastic cookery evening, Angus McPhie Optometrists for sponsoring the carnival raffle tickets and everyone who donated the brilliant prizes. I hope I have managed to remember everyone!

On a personal note I would like to mention the brilliant inter business skittle evening at the Tavy Club which was highly enjoyable and will definitely be repeated next year.

Finally I would like to thank all my fellow Lions for their tireless work and great effort to make this carnival week a fantastic success and to all the residents and visitors to Tavistock for coming out to support us and for donating generously to our bucket collections.

We look forward now to another year packed with events and fundraising.
