TAVISTOCK Rotary Club gathered at the Dartmoor Gliding Club recently, for the presidential handover.

The club welcomed its incoming president, Clive Fairchild, and former president Geri Parlby looked back on her year in the role with pride at the club's achievements.

She said: 'We were able to help a great many local causes, including the formation of the weekly work club which helps local unemployed people with their CV's and job applications as well as giving a kick-start to TASS's TaviMobility project which helps elderly and inform people to get around town.'

Geri was presented with a 'Service Above Self' award for her work in forming the Rotarians Easing the Problems of Dementia (REPoD) group which gives practical help to sufferers from dementia as well as their carers.

This started from the Tavistock club in 2007 and soon included clubs throughout the SW peninsular.

REPoD has now become an adopted project by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland with the well known broadcaster and journalist John Souchet as honorary president.

New president Clive said that he was able to glide smoothly into his new role thanks to Geri's superb leadership over the past year and promised that the club would continue to support local causes and where possible be of practical help to the town.
