KO Cup second round
St Cleer 2
Lamerton 3
LAMERTON travelled to premier side Pensilva hoping to progress into round three for the first time, while putting behind them their previous week?s league defeat.
They got off to the best possible start when within the first minutes an Andy Coe cross was sliced into his own net by a Pensilva defender.
Lamerton could have doubled their advantage when Steve Wickett ran through the home defence and squared the ball, but Jimmy Cole put his shot over the bar.
The home side equalised when Tony Rogers broke clear and slotted the ball past Pete Daniel.
Lamerton regained the lead in the second half when Kev Fedrick converted a Steve Wickett cross from close range only for Colin Wilson to square the match with a header. Lamerton continued to push and the crucial goal came when a Sean Cann shot was parried by the Pensilva keeper and Cole was on hand to put the ball in the back of the net.
A good battling performance from the Lamerton team with Richard Downing outstanding in defence and Andy Coe playing his first full 90 minutes of the season looking back to his best.
This Saturday at home to Lifton 2.30pm kick-off.
KO Cup second round
Godolphin 4
Mary Tavy 1
WITH the absence of three key players Mary Tavy made the 100-mile plus round trip to Newquay to take on a premier side - and they gave the upper division team a good run for their money on a pitch which with constant drizzle was fast becoming a mudbath.
Tavy opted to face the slope in the first half and with one defender late had quickly to re-adjust their formation. With the flow of the land Godolphin as expected had the run of the play and Tavy found it hard going to control the busy midfield play.
Three goals were conceded in the first half with keeper Chris Hurford unlucky as he saw one squirm under him due to the conditions and one fantastic effort drop just under the bar as he attempted to push it over at full stretch.
It was not all bad as Tavy put some good moves together and at the interval the score slightly flattered the home team.
The second half saw a few changes as manager Lee Piper put his practical footballing brain into overtime and saw Tavy come right back into it.
Alan Grylls pulled one back and Godolphin were in for a match. The over zealousness of one home player led to a booking as tackles were flying in the mud but the referee was having none of it.
With moments remaining the youngest player on the field saw his looping effort luckily drop into the net to seal the match.
