Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 8 Bodmin 0 WITH numerous 1st team players unavailable, Tavistock had to be strong in key areas to secure the match. The game opened with Tavistock taking early possession of the ball. Captain Fiona Dunn was playing midfield and defence and worked well with the speed of Sarah Barratt and Laura Armstrong. Armstrong took the ball past the opposition with the greatest of ease and scored the first goal of the match. Robynne Honey and Jo Gaspar continued their excellent partnership skills on the pitch and Honey made some excellent crosses into the ?D?. Judy Miller was a threat to the opposition and they hung two or three players around Miller in order to prevent her from scoring. Miller was still able to outwit the opponents and lay the ball off to Gaspar and Armstrong. With goalkeeper Alayna Wreyford making her debut performance in goal, the opposition could not find a gap through the defences. Laura Stapleton worked hard in midfield and hit a cracking ball into the ?D? which Armstrong took strongly on her stick and slotted another goal past the keeper. Honey and Barratt started to give some good early calls and it was one of these calls from Barratt which allowed Gaspar to cross the ball for Barratt to score her first goal of the match. Armstrong brought the ball into the ?D? and switched it to Honey who scored a superb goal from an awkward angle making it 4-0 at half-time. The second half saw the defence of Tavistock hardly troubled. Dunn pushed up the pitch and linked with Miller and Gaspar to keep the ball in the attacking 25yd area. This resulted in Gaspar scoring the fifth goal. With another young pair of legs on the pitch, Kate Eadie, Tavistock were really able to attack Bodmin and the forwards were given every opportunity of scoring from good balls into the ?D? from Stapleton and Eadie. Honey had a clear shot and took the score to 6-0. Barratt was on top ?D? and Butler saw the opportunity and fed her the ball from which Barratt scored a cracking strike past the keeper. Tavistock were awarded a short corner and Gaspar hit a hefty strike at the keeper. The ball was deflected and Armstrong swiped the ball back into the goal, taking the final score to 8-0.
