Carlsberg South Western League Tavistock 0 Porthleven 2 THE Lambs had the same starting line up as the previous one at Launceston apart from Darren Babb in for injured Captain Nigel Pugh. Both teams arrived full of confidence after their respective performances from their previous games but the Lambs had a strong wind in their backs in the first half to test the visitors? keeper Sid Taylor. Dave Hallett saw him save after 13 minutes, and stand-in striker John Morris was through on goal but chose to cross instead of having a first time shot and the chance was gone. Duane Britten then snatched a shot wide before Morris again found himself bearing down on goal but Taylor blocked his first effort and tipped away the rebound. The Lambs were guilty of wasted free kicks and the Porthleven attack did not have their shooting boots on. But they came the closest to scoring on the stroke of half-time when a combination of the woodwork, Chris Short and keeper Andy Meeds kept out successive efforts from Britten and Shane Richards. Port?s captain Nigel Thwaites saw his effort hit Meeds? crosssbar just prior to the hour with Will Stringer heading wide from a Mike Arscott free kick, but the breakthrough did not come until there were 18 minutes remaining. Babb had to concede a corner from a Mark Holland cross and from it the ball was not cleared for Richards to get in a challenge. The ball to fell to Kevin Lawrence to cut in and fire past Meeds from close in. Mark Conday came on for Gary Williams and ten minutes later Stringer and Paul Adcock combined to give him a chance, but again Taylor was up to the task and saved. The Lambs changed their formation in an effort to get back on level terms but conceded a penalty on the stroke of full time when James Steer was adjudged to have fouled inside the area. Richards slotted home from the spot to put a dent in the Lambs moving up into a top six position. Launceston 1 Tavistock 3 THE Lambs welcomed back Mike Arscott, Nigel Pugh, Shane Krac and Gary Williams to the starting line up with John Morris pushed forward to join Paul Adcock in the attack. Appeals for a penalty were turned away on eight minutes when Will Stringer went tumbling in the area after a heavy challenge, with former Lambs striker Lee Doncaster shooting wide on 15 minutes after a Launceston corner was only half cleared. Both sides had further chances to open the scoring during the first half and it was the Lambs who found the net in the 40th minute. Stringer did well to keep the ball alive when he headed the ball on close to the touch and half way line for Dave Hallett to get the second touch outside the penalty area to send the ball into the goal area. It looked to be keeper Matt Harris?s ball. But with several players challenging it fell behind him for Adcock to stroke home despite appeals from Launceston for hand ball by the striker. Ex-Lambs player Tom Barlow then saw his free kick sail over Andy Meeds? crossbar as the half ended. Meeds had been nursing a groin injury from early on and had left all goal kicks to defender Arscott but he had been hardly troubled by the Launceston attack. The second half started well for the Lambs and they should have been two up on 50 minutes. Morris?s control let in Adcock to go down the flank and cross low for Hallett to get possession at the far post but he glanced his close range shot off the top of the crossbar. But five minutes later they were two up. Williams and Adcock combined to send Morris away to turn inside and send in a shot that gave Harris no chance. Morris had another chance minutes later as he twisted and turned in the area to see two attempts blocked. The Lambs gave themselves a three-goal cushion with 20 minutes left when Chris Menhenick rose to meet a Krac corner to head down and wide of Harris. With the game won the Lambs threw on their three subs in the last 15 minutes and Launceston rallied but could only muster a consolation goal when Steve Oliver headed home with four minutes remaining.
