THE 18th Dartmoor Pony Moorland Show took place last Saturday at Princetown with many registered ponies.

Although the day began with thick fog, by lunchtime the sun was shining and everyone who attended the event had an enjoyable time.

Mrs Newbolt-Young from Widecombe kindly came and judged the 'In Hand' classes.

The yearling winner, Mr Belcher's Trewassick Morning Blue came from Cornwall and made the journey worthwhile by taking the youngstock champion as well, with reserve going to Mrs Aylesbury-Rodgers' Wistmans Camelia. The adult champion went to Mr and Mrs Locke's lovely mare Okeleat Heather Queen, and they also had reserve with their barren mare Okeleat Isabella.

There was a beautiful oil painting in memory of local Dartmoor farmer and pony breeder John Coaker, which was given to the person who had the most points on the day — D Howarth-Podesta from Newton Abbot.
