TAVISTOCK Garden Festival played host to the Tavistock heat of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom South West Painting Competition. The theme of the competition was poppies to commemorate the start of World War One in 1914. The winner in each category will go on to represent Tavistock in the main competition in July. Judges were Tavistock Town mayor Cllr Harry Smith and Tavistock artist, and Drawn to the Valley member Roger Croxon. Lesley Reeves, event co-ordinator, said: 'We were delighted with the response, particularly in the 7 to 11 year group, as we received over 150 entries for the competition.' Winners were: Up to 6 Years: 1, Joseph Leahy, aged 5, from Mount House Pre-Prep; 2, Imogen Miller, aged 5, from Mount House Pre-Prep; 3, Ashok Anaspure, aged 6, from Mount House Pre -Prep. 7-11 Years: 1, Kirsty Vernon, aged 11, Tavistock Community Primary School; 2, Lila Woodruffe, aged 11, Tavistock Community Primary School; 3, Oliver Mack, aged 9 from Tavistock Community Primary School. 12-16 Years: Indira Falle, aged 12, from Mount House School. Adult: Margaret Norman.
