A TEAM of charity cyclists riding from John O?Groats to Lands End arrived in Okehampton last Friday ? minus their leader, former Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police Sir John Evans.
Sir John came off his bike in wet weather near Exeter and unfortunately had to be taken to hospital curtailing his involvement in the charity journey.
The accident came just two days after Sir John was involved in a collision with a lorry near Shrewsbury.
After much deliberation, former deputy chief constable Keith Porlock decided to carry on and complete the charity ride which finished at lunchtime on Sunday.
The cyclists were hoping to raise £50,000 for the Devon-based Dream-a-Way charity, of which Sir John is a patron.
