Devon & Exeter Premier Division Okehampton Argyle 4 Willand Rovers 2 THIS win, plus a valuable point from a 3-3 draw at Topsham last Monday (with Adam Mortimer scoring twice and Steve Williams snatching the other) may be enough to keep Argyle in the Premier Division. But to be sure they need to beat Exmouth Town in their last league match of the season, when they visit Simmons Park on May 17. Argyle could also be thrown another life line if Exeter Civil Service lose or draw their last league game. That would put Argyle ahead of them on goal difference for a draw, and one point if they lose. In the Willand game, Okehampton made a good start with early attacks, but failed to produce a decent cross to trouble the keeper. While at the other end Chris Dearing had to block a close range shot when faced with a one-to-one situation. Moments later James Williams made a crucial late tackle when a Willand forward looked certain to score. After 23 minutes Steve Kinsey latched on to a through ball and calmly placed his shot wide of the Willand keeper to put Argyle ahead. With Willand dangerous on the break, Argyle continued to push forward and were rewarded with another goal on 35 minutes. Again it was Steve Kinsey who first saw his shot take a deflection for the ball to hit the upright and go for a corner. But not to be denied, he was on hand at the far post to tap in his second goal from the corner. Just before half time Willand pulled a goal back when Mike Wise scored from an acute angle. Minutes into the second half, Argyle?s Robbie Sandercock was brought down in the penalty box and James Williams made no mistake from the spot to restore a two goal cushion. An untidy spell developed with both sides committing a number of fouls and it was no surprise when Willand once again reduced the arrears when Brett Andrews snapped up a poor clearance to rifle the ball home from close range. With ten minutes to go Robbie Sandercock broke through the Willand defence to score with a low shot, allowing Argyle to play out the remaining time without too much pressure. No First XI game this coming Saturday. Second XI home to Feniton, and Third XI home to Sandford. Both kick off at 3pm. Next Sunday Argyle take on Witheridge in the final of the Okehampton Cup, kick-off 2.30pm.
