Exmouth II XV 19

Okehampton II XV 17

OKEHAMPTON faced a daunting away trip to semi-professional Exmouth and were duly met by a physically enormous side. But the plucky Okehampton pack set about its business in a workmanlike manner.

On producing the first possession to scrum half Cook a back-line move saw captain and winger Adam Curtis barge over in the corner for an unconverted try.

Exmouth turned the screw and following concerted forward pressure a break from the back row resulted in a try under the posts. Shortly before half-time another break from the Exmouth back row resulted in another try.

At the start of the second half Okehampton's forwards increased their pressure and, following another good move in the backs, Curtis tried to muscle his way over for another score — he was judged to have hit the touch flag before grounding the ball. In attempting to score he caused an apparently serious injury to his opposite number and play was halted for 30 minutes while an ambulance was called.

After the restart the Okes began to take the upper hand and following a good passing movement the ball came back to Toby Daniel who scored under the posts from 35 yards out. This was converted to bring the scores level at 12 points all.

Exmouth exerted constant pressure close to the Okehampton line and eventually created a two man overlap for a try to be scored in the corner. This was converted to make the score 19-12.

Okehampton came back strongly and following good inter-passing among the forwards Ed Jones broke away to score in the corner. Unfortunately the conversion was just wide and shortly afterwards the referee blew the final whistle.
