CASTLE Drogo has a number of events planned this month. Over the Bank Holiday weekend (May 5 to 7), the castle will be offering children the chance to follow a self-led trail — 'Find and Follow the Flowers' — around its gardens. A watercolour painting workshop with local artist Martin Stephens-Hodge will be taking place on Monday May 14 and Tuesday May 15, from 11am to 5pm. The cost of this event, which is suitable for all abilities, will be £65 for both days, including tea, coffee, light lunches and tuition. A warden-led walk around the Teign Gorge is planned for Sunday May 20, from 10am to 12.30pm. Walkers should meet at Drogo's visitor reception. The cost for adults will be £4, with children costing just £2 — dogs on a lead are welcome to come along too. Tuesday May 22 will see a Medieval Manuscript Workshop taking place at the castle from 11am until 5pm. Focusing on the 'Code of Courtly Love', it will teach visitors of all abilities to illuminate their own piece of work. The workshop will cost £35 per person, including tea, coffee, a light lunch and tuition. Finally, Saturday May 26 until Sunday June 3 is 'Heraldry Week' at the castle, when children will be able to follow their way around a self-led 'Dragons, Lions, Maidens and Monsters' trail to discover the secrets and meaning of heraldry. Booking is essential for all of the workshops at the castle and is recommended to ensure a place on the walk. The children's trails cost just £1.50 each on top of the normal entrance cost, which includes a prize at the end. For enquiries and bookings, phone 01647 433306.
