Bodmin Town 4
Tavistock AFC 0
THE Lambs went down after a spirited performance against Bodmin Town — the game a much closer contest then the score line suggests.
The first quarter was evenly contested with both sides playing attractive football on a very heavy playing surface. It was Bodmin that opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The lambs lost possession in midfield and with the defence pushing up, the ball fell to Chris Luxton. His through ball was latched onto by Ollie Brockenshire, who fired home from 15 yards.
Brockenshire doubled his account in the 32nd minute when Tom Chambers won the ball in midfield on the halfway line. He had space to move into and then split the Lambs defence with a fine pass which allowed Brockenshire to beat Meeds to the ball and slot the ball home.
The Lambs nearly equalised in the 38th minute when Dan Pethick saw Miller in the Bodmin goal off his line, and his long range effort from the halfway line saw Miller frantically back pedal, but the ball landed on top of the net.
The second half saw the Lambs pushing forward, looking dangerous on the break.
Ryan Fice had his overhead kick well-saved by the experienced Miller, before the Lambs striker was unlucky to see his leader come back off the post with the keeper well beaten.
The Lambs continued to push forward and forced several corners as Bodmin cleared several attempts on goal.
With the visitors looking more likely to score, in the 79th minute Bodmin broke with pace and substitute Danny O'Hagan collected the ball from Steve Ovens, slipping the ball past Meed to make the game safe.
Fice then had another great chance to score but headed the ball wide.
Bodmin completed the scoring three minutes into injury time when O'Hagan slid the ball under the advancing Meeds.
This was a much better performance from the Lambs and there were some positives from the game.
This week, the first team are home to Penzance, kick-off 3pm. Reserves are away to Launceston, kick-off 2.30pm.
l The Lambs will play Football League Two side Torquay United in the second round of the Westinsure St Luke's Devon Bowl. The game will take place at Langsford Park on Wednesday December 8, kick-off 7.45pm.
This is a great chance to support your local team against football league opposition. The club sincerely hopes that local football fans will turn out in their numbers to cheer the team onto victory.
