DESPITE atrocious weather conditions the tenth Bere Alston Bowling Club Liverton Cup competition was completed last Thursday and Friday.

Seventeen players entered this veteran singles event with Jim Finch in sparkling form in defence of his title.

But despite reaching the two set final Jim was beaten in an extremely close culminating match 7-5, 7-5 by Henry Hooper. And this after Jim had led over the first seven of nine ends.

Earlier Hooper had scraped through his semi final against Brian Adams, winning a three end play-off 2-1 while Finch had a convincing 9-2, 7-6 victory over Ken Bellchambers.

Most of the matches were played in poor conditions with rain often seeing the bowlers seek cover.
