THE dark deeds of the officials and petty bureaucrats from a small town near you are revealed in spectacular fashion as Miracle Theatre's acclaimed production of the renowned classic play The Government Inspector takes to the stage in Calstock next week. The play is set in a country town, far from the capital, where a penniless traveller drifts into town and finds himself mistaken for a top-ranking government official. Being totally unprincipled and spotting an opportunity of raising some cash (not to mention impressing some classy women), he plays along with the confusion. Unwittingly, he rumbles the mayor and his cronies, demolishing their façade of respectability and revealing corruption, greed and hypocrisy on a scale that even he finds hard to stomach. Played out against a musical score which drives the characters on towards their ultimate exposure, Miracle's version of this famous play is guaranteed to shock, amuse and delight as comic absurdities and farcical contradictions are fully exposed to the open air. Since it began in 1979, Miracle Theatre Company has built up a first class reputation for its unique touring productions of classic works and new writing, always with a wide-ranging audience in mind. The Government Inspector is at 8pm at Calstock Village Hall on April 28. Tickets £10 & £7 from Levine's Post Office, Calstock or [email protected]">[email protected]
