A successful brewery is toasting the granting of planning consent for two grain storage silos at its Princetown base.
Dartmoor Brewery applied to Dartmoor National Park planning authority for the silos to support its production to meet demand for award-winning beers.
It has grown considerably since opening from small beginnings in 1994, brewing at the back of the Prince of Wales pub in the village. It now has a purpose-built brewery, with visitor centre, in Princetown, enjoying the distinction of being England’s highest brewery.
The silos will be 8.6m tall and 3.2m, on four legs, with conical roofs and green in colour.
Planners weighed up the impact of the silos on residents and the landscape in what is a protected landscape. The need to support sustainable development, though, won out as they decided the plan met strategic objectives supporting local employment.
The plan (ref: 0064/26) can be viewed on Dartmoor National Park planning portal here: https://www.dartmoor.gov.uk/living-and-working/planning/search-for-an-application
