The first portion of a major housing development in Tavistock has been given the go ahead despite concerns over pedestrian safety and a children’s play park.

West Devon borough councillors rubber stamped the first phase of new housing on land adjacent to Callington Road, made up of 157 new dwellings, with associated landscaping and drainage works.

This should be the first of four phases of development on the Callington Road site, which will see developer Bovis Homes build more than 750 new homes in total.

A new ‘over run’ roundabout, similar to that on the entrance to Brook Lane, will be constructed on Callington Road and will act as the main point of access to the site.
