A MARY Tavy man has had his first poem published in a special book which will raise vital funds for charity. Monty Shulberg?s poem, Moebius Dreams, was one of just 80 chosen from more than 1,000 donated, following an appeal to the nation?s poets to help raise funds for the Stroke Association. The poems will feature in an anthology entitled the Review of Contemporary Poetry, which was launched at the Ledbury Poetry Festival earlier this month. All profits from sales of the book will be donated to the Stroke Association. Publication of the book is a double coup for Monty, a retired consultant audiologist. Not only is his poem featured, one of his paintings was chosen to illustrate the covers. Monty took up art following a stroke several years ago ? so the Stroke Association is a charity close to his heart. He said he was ?very excited? when he learned his poem would feature in the book: ?It was quite unexpected really. It was just an expression of my feelings at a particular time and I never expected for a moment that they would accept it from the hundreds of entrants.? Delighted as he is with the publication of his poem, it was the fact his picture, Orchidii Montii, features on the covers of the book. ?That, for me, is the really exciting thing,? said Monty. The Review of Contemporary Poetry is being published by Bluechrome. Editor in chief Anthony Delgrado said: ?Monty Shulberg, and all the other poets who have donated their work to this great cause, have done something very special and we hope the people of Tavistock will be proud of their local poet and make the effort worthwhile by buying a copy of the book.? Andrew Motion, the Poet Laureate, has written the foreword for the book. He said: ?This enterprising and involving collection puts poetry where it belongs ? at the centre of all our lives. It?s a pleasure to be able to recommend it.? The Review of Contemporary Poetry is officially released on July 22, priced at £9.99. It is available from http://www.bluechrome.co.uk">www.bluechrome.co.uk and most bookshops.
