PHILIP Hartnoll has taken over as acting chair of Tavistock and District Chamber of Commerce following the decision of former chairman, Barry Highfield, to retire due to ill-health.
Reporting on the year, Mr Hartnoll said the chamber had a varied range of speakers — politicians, librarians, policemen and the town crier — giving members a great insight into what is happening and what is proposed in and around Tavistock.
Successful events included an inter-trading evening at the Ordulf and a barbecue at Morwellham Quay. The Christmas lights in Tavistock were the most extensive ever and the Dickensian Evening was a great success.
The chamber thanked all its members for their support and all traders who made it possible to hold these events through their co-operation and financial input.
Thanks were also due to the Lions, who arranged the 'Tree of Life' by the town hall.
The chamber aims to continue to listen to and represent its members' needs and to maintain regular communications with the local councils and groups involved in the business and social life of the town.
