A CALLINGTON man has set himself a remarkable challenge of four major targets to achieve in the months leading up to his 65th birthday.

'Challenge 65' is the title of an epic quest of unfulfilled lifetime's ambitions that Peter Moss, aged 63, of Tamar Close has set himself for the year ahead.

At a time when most people would be thinking of quiet retirement and putting their feet up, Peter is setting out to cycle from London to Paris, climb the four highest mountains in Great Britain, walk the Pennine Way, and finally to undertake the famous bike ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

In early 2009, Peter, a retired bank manager, was diagnosed with prostate cancer and with his family has since raised almost £6,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

'Because my diagnosis was early I was successfully treated and am now able to enjoy an active and happy retirement,' he said.

'Unfortunately not everyone who is diagnosed is so lucky. For many there is a need for specialist nursing care and information and further research into treatment needs to be funded.'

So over the next 12 months starting this August, Peter will be cycling from Buckingham Palace to Paris with his son Richard and eldest grand-daughter, Charlotte, 13. Then in October Peter will be climbing the four highest UK peaks, one each in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Challenge number three next May will be walking the Pennine Way and in September 2014 he and Richard will cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End.

'We should finally finish all this the weekend prior to my 65th birthday,' added Mr Moss. 'We would like to make the total raised for Prostate Cancer UK £10,000 by the end of Challenge 65.'
